3 Days Bwindi Gorilla Tracking SafariGORILLA TREKKING

An encounter with the endangered mountain gorillas is a life changing experience. The trek into their natural habitat, the sounds and smells of the primeval forests and staring into the eyes of the gorillas will not leave you the same. Gorilla trekking is the most popular safari activity on all Uganda tours. Uganda has the largest number of mountain gorillas in the world. With up to 500 members in the different 4 gorilla trekking sectors, you will have a chance to pick what fits you best. Gorillas are found in Bwindi impenetrable national park and Mgahinga gorilla national park.

Gorillas can be trekked all year round. However, the dry months of June, July and August and November, December and January are advised. The drier conditions ensure a smooth trek and avoids the wet slippery trails on your Gorilla trekking safari. Due to the high demand of gorilla safaris, you are advised to book your gorilla safaris 6 months in advance.

WILDLIFE ENCOUNTERS

Looking for exclusive wildlife encounters on the savanna plains? Uganda is the destination for you. This small landlocked country has a staggering 345 wildlife species. This includes the highly sought after Big 5(lion, buffalo, elephant, rhino and buffalo). These wildlife species can be found in the 10 national park and 12 game reserves. One of the most popular attraction is the tree climbing lions found in the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth national park. Murchison falls national park, the biggest national park in Uganda, has the largest diversity and records compared to any national park in Uganda. In the Northeastern part of the country lies Kidepo valley national park. It was named the “hidden gem of Africa” by CNN travel.

Wildlife safaris in Uganda are mainly done in the dry season of June-August and December to February. However, the wet seasons offer exclusive and exciting wildlife viewing. The grass is greener, the air cooler and the synchronized birthing creates epic memories on your Uganda tours.

PRIMATE SAFARIS

Other than the famed mountain gorillas, Uganda is home to 20 primates. These are found in the tropical forest in the central, western and southwestern part of the country. Chimpanzees are one of the most after primates. They share 95% of their DNA with humans. They have similar facial features, make a lot of vocalized calls and use tools during their feeding. They can be found in the forests of Budongo in Murchison falls, Kibale National park, Kalinzu and Kyambura gorge in Queen Elizabeth national park. Other primates include; golden monkeys, red tailed monkeys, L’hoists monkeys, grey checked mangabeys, olive baboons, patas monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys and more.

Primate safaris in Uganda are done throughout the year. The dry seasons of June-August and December to February offer the most favorable conditions for a remarkable trek. A minimum age is required to trek the primates. Anyone with a transmissible disease isn’t allowed to trek these primates because they can easily transmit the diseases to these primates.

ADVENTURE SAFARIS

Uganda’s diverse terrain avails numerous adventure safaris that will get your adrenaline pumping. Uganda is known for the birth of the River Nile. This great river leaves Lake Victoria, creating a series of rapids in its wake. These make for   some perfect adventure activities like white water rafting and tubing. The river offers grade 5, grade 3 and family rafting adventures. Kayak or tube down the different rapids on the river.

Enjoy an adventurous day on the banks of the Nile on your Quad bike as you enjoy the different trails by the Nile. On a rainy day, ride along the muddy banks and trails on your Uganda tours. The tree canopy of the Mabira forest offers amazing zip lining excursions. The 50-meter-high starting point allows you to enjoy the serenity and thrilling ride over the tropical forest. Go bungee jumping for a once in a lifetime experience. The 100-meter-high waterfall in Sipi offers remarkable abseiling experiences. Explore the savanna wildness on horseback in Lake Mburo national park.

MOUNTAIN HIKING

The Rwenzori mountains are the ultimate challenge for hikers in Uganda. At 5,109m, Rwenzori is the highest mountain in Uganda and the 3rd in Africa. It is snowcapped throughout the year and offers spectacular and scenic hiking adventures. The hikes to the summit take up to 7 days. Mt Elgon is the second highest mountain in Uganda and stands at 4.321m tall. The mountain is famous for its largest caldera in the world. The hike to the summit takes up to 4 days.

For those seeking shorter hikes, the Virunga mountains of Sabinyo(3,669m), Muhabura(4,127m) and Gahinga(3,473m) offer excellent day hikes. The summit offers amazing views of the Alpine vegetation. Note however that a certain level of fitness is required to undertake these day hikes.

THE DIVERSE CULTURE

Uganda is blessed with numerous and diverse cultures. With 56 tribes, a cultural tour is a fact finding mission full of mystery. While the central, southern and part of the eastern Uganda is predominantly bantu, the north, northeast and north west is comprised of Acholi, Langi, Alur, Ik, Karamojong and many more. All these different tribes all with their own cultural heritage.

This is expressed through music, dance, dressing, ceremonies and folk tale. Explore the kingdoms through their museums, cultural monuments and cultural ceremonies on your Uganda tours.
