Rwanda implemented a visa-free policy for all African countries, allowing citizens from across the continent…
Rwanda like the rest of East Africa, is known for its colourful, vibrant, and unusual market places. Kimironko market is the busiest market in town. I took walk to kimironko market, the entrance to the market is small but when you walk through the gates, it’s a shopping paradise. The market is in a large warehouse complex, with four equidistant entrances. The entrance on the right hand side of the market is where the vibrant kitenges fabric is located, while the entrance to the left is where the butchers and fishermen hawk meat and lake fish. With your back towards the kimironko bus station, the official entrance to the market, this is where households goods and plastic buckets of very shape are sold awaits. The last entrance leads directly to used clothes and the market seamstresses.
Locals from all over the city come here to stock up on fruits, vegetables, fabrics clothing, shoes, and general households necessities.
I noticed that kimironko market is busy in the early afternoon, when sellers have just arrived and are showing their wares for sale. As I was touring around the market, I spot beautiful handcrafts, fabrics and souvneirs. The designs caught my attention and why not took pictures and the beautiful lady behind each design. The kinteges looked so pretty and seamstresses were ready to make a beautiful dress for me.
These expert tailors are Constanly available and happy to manufacture Kinteges apparel or accessories in timely and cost-effective manner.
On the other end of the complex, you will find juicy mangoes, little bananas, sour passion fruits, and tree tomatoes. Melons are trucked in and giant green plantains still on the branch fill the aisles.
Although the market is not tiny, its simple to explore beacause of the things sold are clearly organised by type and location. Kimironko market with its dizzying assortment of sights, scents, and noise, is obviously overwhelming, and a definite must see in Kigali.
