How to get to Rwanda’s key touristic sites

Whether you are visiting the heritage and cultural corridor in the Southern Province or the Primates in the North or Western, or the big five in the east, you shouldn’t worry because Rwanda has a great road network with tarmac roads to destinations of your choice. Should you opt to use private transport in an SUV, 4WD, or public transport, Rwanda’s transport sector has an organised business transportation. To access public transport, a number of business transport companies have been assigned designated routes and buses set off from the Kigali Nyabugogo Garre (bus park), with each bus departing every 30 minutes. Tickets are picked up from various booking offices spread across the bus park.

To access private transport, the private sector federation together with the Rwanda tourism chamber, have an organised arrangement that ensures tour companies and driver guides are officially registered. A vetting process has been established to check their legality and physical inspection of offices and vehicles are conducted prior to authorising them to operate as such. Private cabs (special hire taxis) offer similar services; however, the experience differs based on the level of education of the individuals.

The mandate of Rwanda Chamber of Tourism is to enhance business opportunities through effective lobbying and advocacy for tourism and hospitality in Rwanda and it consists five associations including the Rwanda Safari Guides Association (RSGA), Rwanda Tour and Travel Association (RTTA).

Guided tours are often organised in comfy Safari Vehicles, Four Wheel Drive, Simple SUVs and other registered vehicles.
